Hearing
Aid - Styles
Please see below the different types of Hearing Instrument that are
available and a brief guide as to which style suits what type of loss
(please note this is just a guide. A proper assessment as to what type
of hearing aid is correct for an individual can only be made after a
comprehensive hearing test).
CIC
– Completely In the Canal
These very small devices fit right into the ear canal and are so small
they can’t easily be seen. However, being so small they are not
very powerful.
Mild-moderate loss.

ITE
– In The Ear
The most common type of private hearing aid. They come in various sizes
from full-shell (filling all of the bowl of the ear) to canal (filling
just half of the bowl of the ear). The bigger the aid the more powerful.
For all but severe hearing loss and ideal for those with limited
dexterity.

Open
Fit
The latest and most successful type of hearing aid. A very small behind
the ear device directs sound through a micro tube to an open fit tip
right in the ear canal.
Ideal for younger hearing aid wearers and those conscious of cosmetics
with mild – severe loss (70-80% of people)!
